And so we begin the final book in the series. My read-along companions and myself have offered all kinds of different takes on each chapter so far – I hope that you have enjoyed reading it all as much as I have.

Don't forget that on the 22nd, we will be celebrating the release Rae Carson's newest novel, WALK ON EARTH A STRANGER! Be sure to check out the giveaway generously set up by fellow read-along-er Fiktshun, at the bottom for 3 pre-orders of the new book!

My thoughts on Chapters 1-14

I know what most of you are thinking, after my single minded review of the last chapters from THE CROWN OF EMBERS, will this one be worth the read – and I say yes. Then again, I am biased.  I get really stuck on declarations of love, especially ones I want to happen so badly, but as you and I know Hector and Elisa still do the dance of conscious and though we know where their hearts are, the bodies have yet to follow.

We meet up with out group of 4 as the trek to save Hector. And as an added bonus, we get a few scattered chapters from his POV while in captivity. This is both helpful and depressing because, well he's being held captive and the chapter section ends with him blacking out from a beating.

Elisa, Belen, Storm and Mara are catching up, all with the added set back of the slave they saved from. The child seems to be about 10 and yet to choose a name for herself. I wish she would hurry up, it's as painful to me as it is Elisa that she is called Mule.

Coolest thing for me would be Elisa and Storm practicing with their Godstones – and I imagine it looks a little something like a combination of the following: (PS – you'd be surprised how hard it is to find gifs of people shooting fire from their hands, or Godstones…)

I'm filled with worry for many people as the chapters tick on. Rosario – back home in a unsettled kingdom. Ximena, because though dispatched by Elisa for offering her enemy Hector, you know she's around and waiting to help. And of course Hector. Always Hector.

Catch up on last weeks posts from the end of book 2, and be sure to follow #ReadingRae to chat with us on today's reviews.

  5. I really enjoyed the way Carson split this book into parts based on the mission, or stage, in Elisa's journey. With each accomplishment, Elisa comes closer to fulfilling her destiny. It was an epic journey, and in the end, Elisa discovers her true self, as well as the power she always had.
