After a couple weeks off, we are back with book 2 in The Girl Of Fire and Thrones series, THE CROWN OF EMBERS read-along! Just a reminder that there might be a few spoilers from here on out.
My Thoughts on Chapter's 1-10
Rae Carson does not waste any time getting right down to the adventure and danger in THE CROWN OF EMBERS – it literally starts on page 2! Since we left Elisa, she's now the queen though it seems that some people under her own roof don't think that she is capable as decisions keep getting made – not so much behind her back – but "above her head"
Interesting things from these chapters:
- Attempt on her life in the first chapter.
- Loss of one of her guard.
- Attempt on her life in the 3rd chapter.
- Being forced to take a husband, though no decision is made yet on who. I know who I want to be her husband – but I know it's not possible.
- The palace reveals more than one secret passage.
- Elisa makes contact with a possible rebel crowd run by someone who definitely wants her dead.
- Elisa decides to learn some self defense.
I'm excited to see where this book goes, it's still so early on and I have an idea of where I want things to go and where I don't. I've successfully avoided all spoilers and fan art up until this point (woah! right?) so I honestly have no idea if I'm right or not.
About The Book
THE CROWN OF EMBERS
The Girl of Fire and Thorns #2
Author: Rae Carson
Release Date: September 18th, 2012
She does not know what awaits her at the enemy's gate.
Elisa is a hero.
She led her people to victory over a terrifying, sorcerous army. Her place as the country's ruler should be secure. But it isn't.
Her enemies come at her like ghosts in a dream, from foreign realms and even from within her own court. And her destiny as the chosen one has not yet been fulfilled.
To conquer the power she bears, once and for all, Elisa must follow a trial of long-forgotten—and forbidden—clues, from the deep, hidden catacombs of her own city to the treacherous seas. With her go a one-eyed spy, a traitor, and the man whom—despite everything—she is falling in love with.
If she's lucky, she will return from this journey. But there will be a cost.
