{2 Year Blogaversary} Giveaway Day 1

2YEARS image

HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY TO US!

It’s officially our birthday here at Me, My Shelf and I and as we do every year, we want to give the gifts to YOU! And it just wouldn't be like MMSAI if the party lasted only one day – so keep an eye out for SEVEN FULL DAYS OF GIVEAWAYS!
*wow I feel a little like Ellen saying that! LOL*

In 2 years, we have accomplished so much! Probably the most memorable, and the biggest thing that happened was when we landed in the Top 10 Finalists in the Goodreads Independent Book Blogger Awards for Young Adult Blogs in 2012. A huge honor we could not have achieved with out you! Thank you all!

In 2013 we will be making the HUGE decision to switch from Blogger to WordPress. Anyone who has done this or is currently thinking about it, just shuddered on our behalf. It’s going to be great when we have it all done, but it’s going to take a lot of time to complete. Since switching means we will lose our GFC or Google Friends Connect, we have come up with a great way for you to stay in current on the blog when you can’t stop in each day. We’re going to start sending out a Weekly Newsletter via e-mail in late January!

This brings me to my only requirement to enter the contests over the next 7 days – sign up for the newsletter anywhere you see a purple bird, or by copying and pasting the link found in the rafflecopter froms first entry option.

You will only have to sign up for the newsletter once, but to pass the first entry option on each rafflecopter form you will have to put your e-mail into the form for me to verify it’s you. THIS WILL NOT sign you up over and over. If you have questions, leave them in the comments and I’ll be sure to help you out ASAP!

NOW LET’S GIVE SOME BOOKS AWAY!
Starting off with a bang,
I’m going to give 2 Winners their choice of books
from the following list.
And hey, you know what if you don’t see something you want here – I’ll let the winner have any book $10.00 USD or less from Book Depository!!

This is INTERNATIONAL as long as Book Depository Delivers to your country for free!
Must be 13+ to enter!!

{Book Review} Me, Him, Them and It

Me, Him, Them and It
Author: Caela Carter
Pages: 320
Format: eARC from NetGalley
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Release Date: February 5th 2013
Rating: 5 Birds

When Evelyn decided to piss off her parents with a bad reputation, she wasn't planning to ruin her valedictorian status. She also wasn't planning to fall for Todd-the guy she was just using for sex. And she definitely wasn't planning on getting pregnant. When Todd turns his back on her, Evelyn's not sure where to go. Can a distant mother, a cheating father, an angry best friend, and a (thankfully) loving aunt with adopted daughters of her own help Evelyn make the heart-wrenching decisions that follow?

With the popularity of Juno, Teen Mom, and The Secret Life of the American Teenager, this novel has a built-in audience. Gripping, heartfelt, and responsible, Me, Him, Them, and It is not to be missed!

Me, Him, Them and It is a gut-wrenchingly honest portrayal of teenaged pregnancy and the devastating emotions and decisions that come along with it. You will laugh, you will cry, you will relate even when you think there is no way you possibly could. Most importantly, you will love every page!

Me, Him, Them and It pulled me in from chapter one and didn’t let me go until it was over. Seriously, I read every single page of this book in one sitting. It took me approximately 5 hours, 4 cups of tea, 1 glass of water, 1 chocolate bar, a small bowl of potato chips, 1 yogurt (had to balance out the chocolate and chips…) and 37 Kleenex’s. Yes, I counted. No that’s not weird at all! Alright, maybe just a little.

This book was so spot on, it was downright freaky. I have read many books with pregnant teens in them and while I enjoyed them well enough, they all lacked the reality factor. No, I’m not talking about this Teen Mom crap. I’m talking the real, true emotion. The kind of emotion that grabs hold of your heart with a vice like grip and pulls it out through your nose. The kind of emotion that makes you cringe because you’ve felt that kind of rejection. That empty feeling that comes from a level of alone you thought no one else in the world knew. The kind of sadness that makes you want to just shove your head in the Kleenex box because it would be easier than trying to grab a new one every half second to wipe your eyes and nose.

I applaud Caela Carter for capturing the real life pregnant teen in Evelyn, and portraying her in the most realistic and honest fashion possible. I believe, especially today, that girls need to see it how hard it is, that it’s not all about nursery decoration and parties. There’s hard decisions to factor in and this book will have them all. Everything from, keep it? Abortion? Adoption? Who to tell? How to hide it?

An added bonus to Me, Him, Them and It – as if this wonderfully written account of pregnant life in high school wasn’t enough, is the cast of characters that live with in it and bring it to life. There’s not one person in there that will make you go “Yea, right!”. Each is crafted so masterfully that it’s almost like they really are real people, not just made up characters in a book. I adored how each one played an equally important role, never falling off and getting lost in the jumble. That is hard with as many people as Carter has going.

My favorites are Evelyn, of course our protag who we follow through the whole book. It’s easy to see why, I relate with her. I was her at one point. While our stories are a little different, everything I felt is there in that book. It could be pages from my journals at some points! And I love Aunt Linda, because she’s what I hope Evelyn end’s up like, emotionally. Maybe because it’s where I ended up and I think that Evelyn would be happy here.

So, you’re wondering now does Evelyn keep the baby? Does she give it up for adoption? Does she even stay pregnant? I’m not going to tell you. What I will say is: have the Kleenex ready, you are going to need them. It was a damn good thing there was a protective covering on my iPad because the tears were flowing faster than I could catch them at the end of this book.

Every girl should read this book, every school should carry it and I thank Caela my whole-heartedly for writing it. I wish I had this book when I was a pregnant teen, I wouldn’t have felt so alone!
