Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she's returned- to her old life, her family, her friends- before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever.
She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can't find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.
Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there's a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikki to the mortal world. And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen.
As Nikki's time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she's forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole's...
When Everneath arrived in the mail, I wasn’t expecting it. (I love those kind of mail days!) The first thing I thought when I took it out of the package was: “Amazing cover!”. And as I am a self proclaimed cover snob" it said to me “This book will rock!” – and you know what….the cover doesn’t lie! The story behind it’s beautiful font and image is just as great!
Everneath is another amazing retelling (they are getting popular, huh?!) this time loosely based on the the story of Eurydice and Orpheus, the Greek myth focusing on the power of love and sacrifices made for it. Now, don’t go and read that myth it if you don’t already know it because it might give some things away – but believe me when I tell you this book will grab you, suck you in and make you it’s Forfeit, sucking the emotion from you as you read! What’s a Forfeit? Well, you’ll have to read Everneath to find out. *wink*
I read Everneath until the wee hours of morning, unable to put it down and literally had to fight myself to go to sleep. When I woke up, the first thing I did was polish it off. This book will take you to places you’ve never been, a world so masterfully created and described by Ashton you won’t want to leave it. It will twist you up, make you want to hug your friends and family, appreciate the loves you have in your life and *warning* get tissues because if you don’t cry, you’ve got issues!
A Solid 5 Birds for Brodi Ashtons debut novel. I am anxiously awaiting the release of the 2nd in the series. The downfall to reading ARCS…you want more before the actual book has been put on the shelves! I feel like the waiting is twice as long! LOL.
*Thank you to the wonderful people at HarperCollins for sharing this novel with MMSAI!
