Miami, Vampires, supernatural humans and a witch – okay so what?! Pair that with some excellent writing, a strange beginning and just all around crazy and you have a great book!
When I first started the book, I really had absolutely no idea how ANY of it had to do with anything listed above. It starts off with Cara Evens and a little background story about her partner dying which ends up leading to this whole mess of paranormal. Who knew that being a cop could be such a dangerously strange job?
So tie that in with becoming a detective and being led on a wild goose chase (although no one else in the department is supposed to know!) to find out how and why your partner died. Traci does a fantastic job of setting each scene up for why Cara is doing what she’s doing – and why all other characters in the book are completely relevant.
Now you say, “okay but…a witch is involved too…isn’t that a little extreme?” Perhaps, but Beth (the witch) is totally amazing. I mean, what chick has a WOLF for a pet!? You tell me. She comes into play with the whole of providing background for the vampires and for the paranormal that is, not only Cara, but fellow Det. Mason. Gaining an understanding of each character could not have been done so cleverly without her!
The fighting, the regular – and raw – human emotion throughout, and the steamy romance (er…I didn’t…um…) make for a great book.
The more I type, the more I feel I’ll lead you to spoilers…so why don’t we end it there? If you want to know more about this book though, guess what? We’re giving a copy away!
