{Interview + Giveaway} SM Reine

By: | Sep 30, 2011

Today we have SM Reine, author of the Seasons of the Moon series with us for an interview and I think, if you’re all very good, she will also be giving away an eCopy of All Hallows Moon, book two in the series that I just reviewed the other day!

Sara, welcome back to MMSAI!

All Hallow's Moon is the second book in your Seasons of the Moon seriahmes, how was writing it different from writing Six Moon Summer, the first book in the series?

It was a lot harder. Even though I had a much clearer picture of the story progression of All Hallows' Moon than I did starting out with Six Moon Summer, finding the drive to sit down and write it was tough. When I finished the book and reread it, I was surprised to find it turned out to be one of the best things I've ever written-- it sure didn't feel that way in the beginning!

Where did the initial idea come from for this series?

The original idea for Six Moon Summer was a standalone book, but Rylie turned out to be too interesting to leave alone. Here we have this normal girl -- who can't stand the thought of eating steak, so she's a vegetarian -- and suddenly she's struggling with these insane, monstrous urges she can't control. The innocent blond girl is always a victim, not the monster. Having her turn into a werewolf is so much fun.

Your the mom to a beautiful little boy, and also a wife. How do you balance it all with your writing?

One word: Grandparents! :) Having enthusiastic babysitters frees up a lot of time for me to write. My husband calls me a workaholic. He's probably onto something. I work a full-time day job as well as my full-time writing job, so when I'm at home, I'm glued to my laptop or phone working on promotion or penning the next novel. I don't have hobbies anymore. But I always make time for my family.

All Hallow's Moon is one of five novels you have personally y19d medwritten, according to Good Reads, all available now but one due out next year. Which of these have you enjoyed writing the most?

The 19 Dragons has been my favorite project. It's a novella, so I never hit those "I can't finish this, I'm the worst writer ever" doldrums that strike around 30-40,000 words. It's the most unique, bizarre thing I've ever written. Like immersing yourself in a steampunk Salvatore Dali painting. The 19 Dragons is a story that makes more emotional sense than rational sense, but it's a heck of an adventure.

If you had to cast Rylie and Seth in a Seasons of the Moon movie or TV series, who fits the description best to you? (feel free to send photos too!!)

Evanna Lynch, who played Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter movies, would be my perfect Rylie. She has this beautiful unearthliness to her that I love. And can you imagine her drenched in blood and eating deer? It would be awesome! I think Bryton James would be awesome as Seth, although that might be because I'm a big Vampire Diaries dork and I want an excuse to poach their actors!

Last - is there more Seasons of the Moon novels coming?

Yes, we're going to see two more novels in the book to round out all four seasons. Long Night Moon will be coming in spring 2012 and Gray Moon Rising will be released in the summer. I have some really exciting things planned to complete Rylie and Seth's story arc! I don't want to talk about it too much yet, but I'll give you a hint: We're going to see shapeshifters.

Sara, as always - we love having you on the blog and thank you so much for taking the time to stop by! We can't wait to see what you come up with next!!

Thanks so much for having me, Amber!
