Did you know that 2 of Lauren Oliver’s books have been optioned by Fox 2000 Pictures? I didn’t.
It’s true though, both Before I Fall and Delirium have been picked up. Now, for you HUGE L.O. fans don’t get too excited – being optioned only means they bought the rights. Weather either of them actually becomes a movie, is still way up in the air. My stance is, wait until they cast people, then get excited!
So why is this important enough to get a blog out of me at 8:30 am? Well first I haven’t done a post like this in a long time, they have all been structured reviews and what not. And second, WHY WHY WHY?!!!
Alright, Delirium I get. Delirium I would watch. Even if I felt that the dystopian society created in it wasn’t “dystopian” enough for my taste – I would still grab me some pop corn and soda and go see it at midnight even.
But Before I Fall? COME. ON.
I am trying to sort out in my head how this even qualifies as a 1.5 hour long movie. Why it’s a plot line even being considered for a movie. Let’s recap:
Girl is a Bitch. Girl Dies because she is also stupid and makes poor decisions. Girl relives last day (and death) 7 times, sometimes being a bigger bitch then normal and in the end peacefully goes where bitchy fictional girls go leaving behind relieved school mates who no longer have to hide from her stuck-up-ed-ness rath. Okay, I add-libbed that last bit, but you get my point.
Woah. Woah. Woah, Amber, I’m getting the feeling you didn’t enjoy Before I Fall.
Good catch my astute readers…I did not. I felt it was on the verge of Awesomeness and Suck Town and just took a step too close the Suck Town Exit, but didn’t actually go in.
Maybe I hated the protagonist in the book because I hated that girl in high school. Maybe I was in a bad mood the day I read the book. Whatever it is, what I can tell you for sure is…if it does get made into a movie I am not strong enough to not at least Red Box it and see what it’s like…so weather I hated, disliked or whatever’ed the book – Check back here in 3 years for a review on the movie.

well...i JUST added Delirium to my TBR pile - now I'm starting to rethink that decision per your post...decisions decisions.

Totally agree that Delirium did not have a well built dystopian world, but I'd still watch it too ... just out of curiosity. I mean, overall, I liked the book despite its flaws, so it shouldn't be a terrible movie either (hopefully), if it gets made.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Delirium's world building wasn't as great as I was expecting it to be. It was a disappointing read for me, but I'd still watch the movie.
ReplyDeleteI loved Delirium, although I agree with your comments about it to a point. Very excited to see it is going to be a movie though. I could pick other dystopian novels I've read lately that would be better.
ReplyDeleteHa amazing! I didn't enjoy Delirium either (how on earth did anyone get away the cure? That would never have been allowed! Not to mention all the evil grown ups seemed to have no problem enjoying being evil, so what did they cure exactly? The fuzzies?)
ReplyDeleteSo I wasn't too bothered by Before I Fall and I'm glad I don't seem to be missing anything.
