She is pretty and talented - sweet sixteen and never been kissed. He is seventeen; gorgeous and on the brink of a bright future. And now they have fallen in love. But ...They are brother and sister.
Woah.
I put this book down last night at about 11:30 PM. I have had a full nights sleep, some coffee, breakfast…and I am still reeling from the book. I can not stop thinking about it. I was taken aback dozens of times, my heart ached, I cried, I got angry. This book took it all out of me.
In Forbidden, Suzuma takes the impossibly taboo topic if incest and turns it in a book where, I’ll be damned, but I was rooting for those kids. It honestly made me take my morals into account, I found myself second guessing how I was raised. Don’t worry, I don’t have any intention of falling in love with my brother – I don’t even have a brother, but you get the point. This book will turn you upside down.
I have to admit when I read the blurb for this book I was a bit shocked at the bluntness of the topic and I think that’s why I dove in head first to it. I have found that the books which have topics I normally wouldn’t’ discuss in polite company tend to be the most thought provoking. And after hours of what can be sometimes mindless fantasy I just really need something to get those rusty cogs a-moving up there.
I am giving this book 5 Birds and Suzuma a standing ovation for writing a incredibly realistic, captivating and utterly fascinating account of what is commonly a highly disfavored topic. I suggest this book for anyone 18+ as there is graphic sexual content, more then I have run into in a YA novel before in fact.

I have been hearing some really amazing things about this one. I must admit that I have been sort of avoiding it because of the whole incest thing, but with all the reviews out there I figure I better give it a shot!
