My fingers tread lightly as I write this review. It is safe to say I am just as terrified to write it as self published author Tiffany King is to read it. This will be her FIRST review outside of family. I will be the first blogger to officially blog about it. To put it mildly, that's a big responsibility for me, but also a huge honor as she hand picked me to be one of the first.
I suppose I should get down to business, Tiffany is probably reading this in panic trying to find where I either praise or trash her book...we''l just breath Tiffany...and hold on tight - here we go!
Let's start with the cover art (no Tiffany not to prolong the wait....) Meant To Be's cover art was hand drawn by the very talented Brittany M. King. It's hard to see in the small sample I have but the background detail of The Boardwalk is UN-REAL! I swear if you look close enough you can even see a small child throwing up on the tilt-o-whirl.
After I finished the book last night I just stared at the cover art for awhile going "Ohhhh!" and "I see!" as little bits all fell into place for me. This cover really is the embodiment of the story with it it's (electronic) pages.
Speaking of the story with in the (electronic) pages...
I'm at a loss for words. When I enjoy a book and when I book throws me for a loop as many times as Meant To Be did I struggle to properly relay it to you. Let's see what I can blather on about with out giving anything away, shall we?
I was taken away at first shot with the setting and description of the surroundings in this story. It's detailed and beautiful. You are never left wondering where you, or in one case even where bathroom is. (I will laugh to myself on that last bit for a while - read the book and you'll giggle too!)
Krista, along with the other characters are very well structured. They all have a unique personality, they don't blend together. And they all have amazing back stories Tiffany manages to bring in with out them seeming out of place. If there's nothing I hate more then, all those other things that irritate me, I hate back stories that are randomly plopped into the plot.
The story itself is complex and deep but very well explained. It's like a winding staircase, as long as you keep moving forward you can't get lost but each step takes you deeper and deeper in.
I have racked my brain trying to figure out how Tiffany came up with all this. I really thought I knew where things were headed, but no, no, no I was tossed a curve ball so fast about midway through that I literally smacked my husband who was playing x-box next to me and went "Nah-Uh!!! Way to go Tiff!". Luckily my husband is used to my random outbursts so he smiled and continued his game.
Cut to a few hours later where I'm reading by the light of Mah Nookie next to my sleeping husband in bed, and curve ball #2 comes wizing past. That time when I smacked him, he wasn't as happy.
And oh yes you heard me right, curve ball #2! Half way through when I thought I knew where things were going but it turned out I was wrong....well I was wrong then too. Sign.
This book was a great ride (get it...ride..hehe. Oh jeeze read the book so you find this funny too please.) It takes you every which way, slaps a new twist on something I didn't think could be changed and leaves you guessing the whole way through. I promise if you buy this book you will not be disappointed! And speaking of buying, Meant To Be will be available exclusively on Amazon March 18th! I'll link when I have one.
Congrats Tiffany, and thank you for the honor of being among the first to read your debut novel!
